Together with SL Heat, we blew natural wood fiber insulation into the roof.

At the future eight-apartment building on Alūksnes iela 2, we have finished insulating the roof with wood fiber, together with our partners at SL Heat.

We chose this material because it is natural and stores heat very well, and wood fiber is also good at sound insulation. In a timber apartment building, that matters a lot.

The insulation is blown into the structure through a hose.

Why we blow it in

Blowing fills the structure evenly and tightly, so there are no gaps and no unnecessary heat loss. The material arrives in compressed bags, and a blowing machine sends it through a long hose to where it goes.

Work you never see later pays off every day: steadier temperatures, a more even indoor climate and quieter apartments.

Next up: the floors between stories

The floors between stories in this building use Posi-Joist beams made of wood and metal. Their open shape lets us fill the floor completely with insulation and run utilities through the beams without drilling into load-bearing parts.

On the second floor, we will pour an estrich concrete layer. It improves sound insulation, so daily life in the first-floor apartments is quieter and calmer.
